1. Find resources for your family

1. Open Find resources. Try everyday words such as money or medical, or a specific topic such as homeschool resources or speech therapist.
2. Choose a featured county, or keep All featured counties. Select Search to show results below the search bar. Leave the search blank to browse.
3. Open a listing’s website for details. Use its heart button to save it, then select Saved in the top menu to return to your bookmarks.

Need a different result? Open More filters to change the resource type or coverage, then select Search again. If filters hide every match, use Search without extra filters when offered; it keeps your search words and county. Counties marked Coming soon do not yet have local listings; statewide resources may still help.

2. Explore schooling and financial help

Open School options and choose homeschooling, Catholic schools, private/charter schools, virtual/community learning, or public schools. Follow the section’s resource links for the next step.

Open Scholarships & aid for Step Up For Students and other assistance. Follow each program’s official link to confirm current eligibility, applications, and deadlines. Contact schools or providers directly about support, openings, and costs.

3. Choose how to create lessons

Open Lesson Plan Creator, which is part of Parent Tools. Start with the free sample lesson PDF; it uses fictional information and needs no IEP upload.

Quick Lesson

Upload a readable IEP to generate lessons without a follow-up questionnaire. Choose Daily or Weekly under Plan Length, then select the adjacent Generate / Update button. Weekly aims for five weekdays when the IEP supports enough distinct activities.

Customizable Lesson

Upload the IEP, then review the plan above the editor. Adjust dates, length, goals, supports, or parent notes; the preview updates as you edit.

Plan Manually

Enter a learning goal, current skill level, and preferences to build a lesson without uploading an IEP.

A different focus each day: weekly plans choose distinct daily focuses from the activities being taught. An IEP communication or direction-following goal can be practiced through art, science, or another subject without changing its response method or required supports. The most common subject in that day’s activities determines its main subject. If the document supports fewer subjects, headings name different specific practice tasks within the available goals; these are not new IEP goals.

Want a different plan? Select Generate different lessons beside the generated plan, in Quick or Customizable Lesson. It reuses the open IEP and skips activities already used in this session. If there are not enough suitable alternatives for a complete replacement, your current plan stays available. Save or download a version you want to keep before generating another.

Open How this plan uses the IEP to see recognized current skills and access needs. Counting practice can start within the documented current range, while reading, communication, and materials support follow the IEP. Grade placement and disability labels alone do not determine difficulty. Automatic document reading may miss details; examples are not a verified grade-level curriculum. The original goals and assistance limits remain in the teaching notes. To refresh a saved plan after closing the builder, upload its IEP again; the original file is not stored with the plan.

Review every activity for your child. In Quick or Customizable lessons, use Edit activity for changes, check off completed work, and choose Save plan or optional autosave. Uploading a different IEP starts a fresh source session; previously saved plans remain separate.

Choose your download design: after generating or reopening a saved plan, select Customize design beside Download. Choose colors, text style, text size, and decorative, simple, or ink-saving pages. Uncheck Show decorative images to remove the border and header artwork; check it again to restore them. Simple and ink-saving pages already omit images. The preview updates with your actual lessons. Select Use this design to apply your choices, or Download this design to get the file immediately. Closing without either action cancels your changes. Restore original design resets the preview; apply it when ready. Choices apply to lesson downloads and printing in this tab until the page reloads. Larger text may use more pages; activities and notes are kept in full.

Keep the lesson design: choose Download styled lessons or Download this day. Manual lessons have Download styled plan. Open the downloaded file in your browser to see the same colors, subject headings, checkboxes, parent edits, and activity notes. The design works offline. Use its Print / Save as PDF button, or the website’s Print / PDF button, for a PDF copy. The Include in export choice still lets you download the complete record and notes.

Lesson and School Year Planner uploads accept readable PDF, Word (DOCX), or TXT files up to 12 MB. For older Word DOC files, save a DOCX or PDF copy first. Image-only scans need a version with selectable text. Suggested lessons still need a parent’s review.

4. Pick the parent tool you need

On Parent Tools, select View free sample on a tool’s card. Use Download sample to keep a copy. Each sample matches that tool and does not change your family’s records.

For full-tool use, start with the steps below. When working with generated lessons, Use in Parent tools copies activities and goals into the toolkit; save the toolkit to keep that copy.

Add a work sample: in the Homeschool portfolio builder, use Drag document here or Choose File. Attach a PDF, Word (DOC/DOCX), ODT, RTF, TXT, or PNG/JPEG/WebP image up to 3 MB. Scanned PDFs can be kept as portfolio attachments without text extraction. Enter a title and notes, then select Add to portfolio. Documents stay unchanged and can be downloaded from their entry; images are resized. Use Edit entry to replace or remove an attachment. Save on this device or Download backup keeps it; the toolkit has a 5 MB total limit. Printed portfolios and annual reports list document filenames; attach the actual files separately when sharing. Backup restore areas accept only that tool’s JSON backups, not ordinary documents.

Keep progress meaningful: generating a lesson does not mean your child completed it. Record actual work and observations. The annual report is a parent-prepared summary, not an official evaluation.

5. Save your work and return later

1. Use the tool’s Save button before leaving. Save again after edits, unless you enabled autosave in that lesson or school-year plan.
2. Use Download backup where available. Keep original IEPs and work samples separately. Print / save PDF makes a readable copy; choose Save as PDF in the print window.
3. Return using the same browser profile, device, and website address. On Parent Tools, open Already have saved work on this device? and choose the type of record.

Saved records stay in your browser. There is no online account backup or automatic device syncing. The tools share about 5 MB of browser storage; images and long records can fill it. If saving fails, keep the tab open and download your work.

Deleting saved data: open Privacy & saved data at the bottom of any page. Deletion affects Special Needs by State records only in this browser profile on this device, including all children or families sharing that profile. Other visitors, other devices, original files, downloads, and current tab work are unaffected.

6. Quick help

No search results?

Try a broader term or another county, check More filters, and select Search again. Changing the words or filters alone does not run the search.

How do I start using a tool?

Open Parent tools and select Open tool on the card you want. For lessons, choose Quick Lesson, Customizable Lesson, or Plan Manually. Save or download your work before leaving.

Can’t find saved work?

Check the browser profile and website address you used to save it. If browser data was cleared, restore a downloaded backup where the tool offers that option.

A button does nothing?

Interactive search and tools need JavaScript enabled. Save or download open work before refreshing. Static sample downloads remain available without JavaScript.

7. Play and learn with GAMES!

1. Open GAMES!. All fourteen games are free. No account, signup, payment, or trial is needed.
2. Set a comfortable Learning level and choose 3, 5, or 10 challenges. Age is only a starting suggestion. Choose simpler boards, higher contrast, or a garden, ocean, or space play world. Play world changes immediately, including during a game. Ocean has colorful teal and blue scenery; Space has a dark sky with bright stars, planets, and suns. Changing worlds keeps the current question, answers, and progress.
3. Select Open game to play in the current tab. To keep the library open, use the separate Open in new tab ↗ link beneath the game’s button. Select Start adventure. Tap or click, or use Tab and Enter/Space; no dragging, fast responses, or speech is required.
4. Try garden missions, a music composer, number stories, word building, patterns, memory, everyday stories, rover coding, shopping, and science sorting. The thirteen learning adventures have four levels. Music Studio is open-ended instrumental play. Garden and Melody Maker also have Create freely modes in parent settings. Word Builder and Letter Detective accept up to 20 of your own words and optional clues.
5. Sound starts off. Use the Sound off / Sound on switch inside the game. For volume and Test sound, open Make play fit your learner. Every completed challenge plays a short recording of children cheering when Sound is on. Each mission begins with Your challenge, short steps naming the controls to use, and Mission complete when. Shopping and decision games update these directions as you progress. Read instructions aloud includes the current challenge, steps, and finish condition. A small win notice celebrates your success while your completed work stays visible. After about four seconds, the next challenge starts automatically; after the last challenge, your rewards open automatically. No dismissal or Next click is needed. Select Keep this result for more time, then Continue automatically or Next now when ready. Pause or leaving the tab also pauses the transition. Read my result aloud keeps the result open while you listen. At the end, choose Play again or Choose another game. Celebrations move only when Gentle movement is on; your device’s reduced-motion setting is respected. Cheers follow the volume, Pause, and Stop sound controls. Melody Maker uses recorded upright piano, glockenspiel bells, and wooden xylophone sounds, with adjustable tempo. Under Parent settings, choose a natural reading voice and pace, then select Preview voice. The first natural-voice download is about 110 MB; text is then read on your device without a paid service. Choose a device voice for a smaller download. Read aloud reads the current instructions; Pause or Stop sound ends it. Check the device and tab are not muted.
6. Use hints and visual helpers freely. Memory cards can be studied without a timer; letter tiles and rover routes have Undo. Music can be replayed with visible note cards or composed and downloaded. Choose Pause, or leave the game tab, to pause play and stop sound.
7. To change difficulty during play, adjust parent settings and select Apply settings & restart challenge. Completed challenges are kept; only the current challenge restarts. Sound, contrast, volume, and movement change immediately. Reduced-motion device settings override optional movement.
8. In the learning adventures, choose Finish for now to see and download a play summary. Saving is optional: turn on Save play summaries on this device before finishing to keep the latest 30 sessions per game. View, download, or delete these under Your recent play discoveries. These records describe practice, not mastery or a clinical assessment.
9. Come back whenever you like. All games and parent tools are free, with no signup or timed access limit.

Answers and custom words are not saved or uploaded. Optional play summaries stay in this browser, without child names or answers. Reloading clears the current adventure; explicitly saved summaries remain. Games runs on your device once its files have loaded.

Discovery Lab · explore your science bench

Open Discovery Lab and select Start adventure. Look at the object in the observation tray, then choose the group it belongs in. The counter shows how many objects you have sorted. A wrong choice leaves the object in place so you can try again.

Explore the lab at any time during a mission: tap a colored Bubble beaker to see air bubbles, and turn Sound on to hear recorded water bubbles. Select Look through microscope, then Next slide to explore illustrated onion cells, salt crystals, and woven fabric. These tools are optional and do not change your sorting progress. Gentle movement, reduced motion, volume, and Pause apply to the lab too.

Music Studio · just play

Open Music Studio and select Open Music Studio. Choose piano, guitar, bells, keyboard, drums, trumpet, or flute. Select Turn sound on, set a comfortable volume, and tap the keys or drum pads. Hold a key for a longer note, or play several together. There is no score, mission, time limit, or required sequence.

Under More ways to play, choose five large notes or three drum pads, show the black keys, play a chord, or enable computer letter keys. Sound, volume, simpler boards, contrast, and Play world change immediately. Record & replay your tune remembers up to 90 seconds or 256 notes/chords in this tab, including changes of instrument. This records your key presses, not a microphone. Select Stop recording, then Replay. A new recording replaces the previous tune. Pause, Stop all sound, muting, or leaving the tab ends recording and playback but keeps the tune until you clear it or reload/close the tab. Music Studio does not save scored play summaries.

Number Workshop

Look at the large number puzzle. The highlighted ? is the number to find. Choose an answer number or type your own in My answer, then select Check my answer. Choosing a number does not submit it. An incorrect answer stays editable, with a hint to help you try again. The completed equation and worked explanation appear only after a correct answer. Select Keep this result if you want more time to read them.

Use counters to work it out opens an optional workbench. You control the counters: add to a second mat for addition, cross out counters for subtraction, build groups for multiplication, or share counters among baskets for division. Missing-number puzzles use only the information shown in the question; they do not prefill the missing amount. Use Undo last move or Start counters again to revise the model. Counters do not fill in your answer. Read instructions aloud describes the current puzzle and, when open, the counter directions.

In Parent settings, choose a learning level and the math operation to practice, then apply the settings. Simpler boards & fewer choices reduces answer choices. There is no timer, and no dragging is required.

Friendly Market

Match the picture shopping list to the large food cards. Tap each food to put it in the basket; tap it again to put it back. Select Take basket to checkout, then choose cash or a pretend credit card. All prices and payments are for practice.

Cash: tap the illustrated bills or coins to count your payment. Tap money on the counter to remove it, or use Undo last or Clear. Select Check my payment. Level 1 uses small whole-dollar prices and $1 bills. Level 2 practices pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Level 3 adds larger bills and a longer list. At Level 4, pay the requested amount, then count and check your change.

Credit card: choose the shopping total on the card reader, then tap the pretend card. Card payments pay the exact total and do not give cash change. This is a local simulation with no real card details, purchases, or payment connection. The pretend receipt stays visible after the mission. Select Keep this result if you want more time to read it. Choose a different payment before finishing if you want to switch methods.

Learning Road Trip

Choose Start driving for a longer discovery route with orange cones and optional stars to collect. The current goal stays in the yellow panel directly above the car. Use the on-screen arrows or your keyboard: Left / Right steer, Up speeds up, and Down slows down. Tap the road first if your keyboard is controlling another part of the page. Space starts or brakes the car; Brake / pause drive takes a break.

Steer around cones and through stars. If a cone is in your lane, the car stops before it; choose an open lane to continue. There are no crashes, lost lives, or required star totals. The car parks at every learning question. The question, picture model, answer lanes, and car are together in the driving area. Choose a lane, then select Drive through my answer. Incorrect answers can be retried without a time limit. After a correct answer, the learning stamp appears briefly and driving continues automatically. At the destination, the passport shows the learning stops, distance explored, and stars collected.

Open Car, route & sound options to choose a 180 m, 420 m, or 840 m stretch between stops, a relaxed, cruising, or sporty pace, and whether to include cones. Route length and cone changes begin with the next stretch. In Parent settings, choose mixed learning, numbers, words, or patterns and a learning level; apply these settings to restart the current trip. Fewer choices gives two answer lanes and two learning stops. Garden, Ocean, and Space change the scenery without restarting the trip.

Turn Sound on to hear the recorded sporty engine, toy-style horn, a young girl’s hello, natural birds, and the dog’s short bark. The girl, dog, and birds greet your car from the sidewalks as you pass. You can also tap them. The engine changes with your speed. Each sound type can be switched off separately, and the girl’s hello has normal and softer volume options. Extra scenery movement is optional; Pause and leaving the tab stop motion and audio. Read aloud describes the current goal and directions. Roadside voices are recordings; the separate read-aloud voices are synthetic and run locally.

Roadside friends: In Learning Road Trip, a girl waves from the sidewalk, the dog wags and barks, and birds chirp as your car passes. Turn Sound on to hear the recordings, or tap a friend to hear them again. In Car, route & sound options, choose the normal or softer girl’s hello and switch hellos, birds, or the dog on or off separately. Pause stops movement and sound. With your device’s reduced-motion setting, the friends stay still beside the road while their greetings follow your progress.
